This past weekend the guys of Face Value spent their free time making a new video for their fans. Of course zombie themed to go along with the holidays. On top of that they’ll be playing a big date in early November, will release a new album in 2017 and more. We talked a little about that and a whole lot about pop punk, Baltimore and…well, keep on reading to find out!
Kendra: Being Baltimore based, have you had the chance to connect with All Time Low in any way? They seem like good company for your style?
Face Value: Haha, Baltimore and “pop punk” make people immediately think of ATL. Unfortunately, we have not but you never know what the future may hold. We may or may not have some similarities and differences when comparing our styles of music but connecting with them in any way, shape or form would be insane either way you slice it!
Kendra: Every generation has its own pop punk to bring to the table. When it comes to your sound, what type are you serving up?
Face Value: Every band says this but we genuinely feel that we bring a new feel to the “pop punk” genre. Growing Up Young definitely had some gems on it and people always told us they could relate it to the 90’s/2000’s pop punk bands like Blink and all that jazz. Thick As Thieves was a little more mature but it just adds to our style, whatever that may be. I like to think of us as a mix between Blink, Yellowcard, a dash of All Time Low and maybe even some Angels & Airwaves.
Kendra: From Growing Up Young to Thick as Thieves you matured a lot all around, so what can fans expect from the music you’re working on for next year?
Face Value: This next release will be our largest undertaking yet. Hopefully it will be our first full-length! The songs we are writing will probably be as unique from one another as they were on Thick As Thieves but still have some type of unity, too. We don’t want to be stale; we want to keep the energy going and challenge ourselves to write decent music that people will raise an eyebrow to once they hear it kick in. If we can do that, our lives will have some sense of fulfillment.
Kendra: You have one show coming up in November at the NYC Marathon and have said there are more to come. Anything on the books yet for 2017?
Face Value: We actually do not have anything planned aside from figuring out where and when we will record the next album. We like to keep our books open because opportunity usually presents itself at the most random or unexpected times. Hopefully this fall we can line up some bigger gigs and maybe even a tour, who knows?
Kendra: Going off my favorite off Thick as Thieves, “Constellations,” if you had to make a mixtape for a night out looking at the stars, what five songs would have to be on it?
Face Value: Well, this may seem random but let’s go with…
“Telescope” – Yellowcard
“Bright Lights” – 30 Seconds To Mars
Anything from Explosions In The Sky
“Waiting For The End” – Linkin Park
“Soul To Squeeze” – Red Hot Chili Peppers
