Have you ever had a million and one things swirling around in your head, and all you wanted to do was sit in a cave all day and write them out? That’s me today. Thoughts on Degrassi’s heartbreaking finale, cliques, watching some people grow while others remain the same via social media and Departure’s upcoming release are all fighting for front row attention and for now – the band from UK has won with their melodic take on hardcore with Death Touches Us, From The Moment We Begin To Love.
Melodic thanks to the beautifully crafted intros that accompany a majority of the record you can hear “Waiting” and “Set Adrift.” Hardocore because let’s face it, when you’re delivering lyrics with such brute force, that’s where you get placed. However, this wasn’t the type of hardcore where you can’t understand a single word coming at you. You could grasp the solidarity being sang about in “The Last Dance” as well as the poignant words in “Lost.” All in all, what I believe this record really proved by the time it was almost over with “Death of You,” was that this is a band to watch live. Their energy comes through enough via the record but it’s so much so that I feel like you need to see this band on a stage to really attach yourselves to them.
Pulsating music with a resonant twist, Departures brings about a sound fans of Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! and Touché Amoré would be in tune with. So if you have a million and one things either to do or on your mind – let Death Touches Us, From The Moment We Begin To Love win you over right now and then get to the rest of the day. Then check out the record when it drops July 29.
