GML: The Power of Fandom

Is there anyone who can watch a terminally ill child meet their favorite celebrity and not cry about it? If you know anyone that can watch those clips with a stone cold face, you may want to check them into an insane asylum because they are clearly psychopaths. This week I saw two and while only one of them is musical, I just had to talk about them because it made me think of those celebrities out there who don’t appreciate their fans *cough* Justin Bieber *cough* First this week was Florence + the Machine visiting a young lady who was stuck in the hospital and couldn’t make it to their show. I mean, just look how happy that visit made this girl. The other was an 18-year-old boy battling cancer for the second time down in San Diego who got a very big surprise when he opened his door and saw three of the Avengers; Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Did you click those links? Did you immediately start balling? I get that celebrities aren’t made to be these natural healers and aren’t required to meet every single fan that comes their way, but when they sit back and realize that this song they wrote or movie they made has that much power over people – and they don’t care, how that can be? If something you made had the power to make an ill person forget what they’re going through for just one second of the day, isn’t that something greater than the fame and fortune?

Anyways, that’s what was on my mind this week as the news decided to make me cry every other day. Now onto some news that is far from tearful, tours! DZ Deathrays are leaving home soon on tour and you can see where they’ll be below. October Sky will also be doing the same – today actually. Tonight they’ll be in Boston at PA’s Lounge and they’ll be out a month before they wrap up in Spokane, WA at the end of June.

unnamedNow for some good ol’ music videos!

Fleurie “Still Your Girl”

Lawrence Arabia “A Lake”

The Kills “Siberian Nights”

Sam Fischer “Lean”

Fear of Men “Trauma
