Roses & Revolutions Won’t Break Anytime Soon

Having a partner in crime is an innate feeling we all have. Who doesn’t pick a best friend that first day of kindergarten, have a buddy at work they can always count on, or have that one person in life they know they can always count on when it comes to being a creative outlet? That’s the case for Alyssa Coco and Matt Merritt. When put together though, you can refer to them as Roses & Revolutions. They’re an indie pop duo from Rochester, New York and they’ve not only got a new single out and about, but they’ve got where you can check them out later on this year, and so much more.

Kendra: When you sit down to pen a song, do you work together or separate and then come together and was that how it was when it came to your latest, “I Won’t Break?”

Roses & Revolutions: Matt is a really good lyricist! Usually we’ll work together on tunes. Sometimes when we each take a different room and see what we can come up with. Other times we sit and come up with the lyrics together. For “Bonnie & Clyde,” Matt had the chorus idea and we immediately were able to come up with a melody we loved and worked the verses from there!

Kendra: Loving “Bonnie & Clyde.” Do you guys think you’re more like them, or another famous duo?

Roses & Revolutions: Thank you!! Bonnie & Clyde are bad asses. We’re not that badass. We’re more like Ren and Stimpy.

Kendra: You guys have covered The Weeknd, and he was at the Oscars killing it this year. If you could travel back in time and cover a classic soundtrack song, which would it be and why?

Roses & Revolutions: We LOVE The Weeknd (us and everyone else)! He is super talented and had a ton of fun covering “The Hills.” I think we have different answers on this one…

Alyssa: I would absolutely undoubtedly cover “My Heart Will Go On!” Titanic was a huge inspiration for me as a little kid. I would record myself on my cassette player over and over singing that song. I was weirdly obsessed.

Matt: I would cover the theme from Twin Peaks! It’s my favorite show of all time and has the most amazing soundtrack!

Kendra: You’ve opened for a lot of great acts like Ingrid Michaelson and The Lone Bellow, but who has been your absolute favorite so far?

Alyssa: Ahh they’ve all been so different! I think my favorite would have to be The Lone Bellow. I’ve been a fan of them for a while now and when we got to open for them, I was a little starstruck haha! Those three voices together give me the chills. I could do that every night!

Matt: We just recently opened up for Marian Hill and it was such an amazing crowd. They’re more of an electronic act and we opened up with just an acoustic guitar and vocals. What was really cool was the crowd got right into it and rocked with us like we were a 10 piece dance band.

Kendra: Will you all be playing any shows in the coming months?

Roses & Revolutions: We do have some shows coming up! We’ll be back in NYC at Rockwood Music Hall this summer and we’re doing a really great festival that we’re not allowed to announce yet.

Kendra: If you had to make a mixtape that was titled, “Dear My Love,” what five songs would have to be on it?

Roses & Revolutions: Love this!
She Lit a Fire” – Lord Huron
Come Pick Me Up” – Ryan Adams
Angel” – Shaggy
XO” – John Mayer
Say Anything” – Tristan Prettyman
