One could only hope to have the life that Gordon Rothbard has had. Living in a Rock & Roll montage, playing at infamous clubs like CBGB and then settling down a bit to do the whole family thing, all the while knowing music would be on the forefront once again with his latest band, The What 4, and their album, Brighter Future. A show aficionado, I always imagine the crowd when I listen to an album, and Brighter Future conjured up images of rockabilly looking guys and gals appreciating the upbeat, vintage, ways of “Cherry on Top” while “Call Me Jane” set off pictures of families singing along at a concert in the park. But the no matter the scene, one thing’s for sure…The What 4 has a fun sound that reaches over musical boundary lines. Their jukebox style is what makes the album stand out with a different vibe with each turn of the track.
