Owl City, More Than a Firefly

Adam Young, better known as Owl City, had one of the biggest songs of 2009. It was even sung by American Idol winner, Lee Dewyze…yeah, I know, who? Bottom line is that everyone was humming the catchy tune, but Owl City is back with the follow up to “Ocean Eyes,” “All Things Bright And Beautiful.” Can he top his last? “All Things Bright And Beautifu”l is a cute record with upbeat music you could very well find on Sesame Street, songs you’d find in the stars and an ounce of swag.

Right as “The Real World” kicks in minds will transform into a kids show. The music is full of positivity while the lyrics tell a different story. It’s almost like Third Eye Blind’s “Semi Charmed Life.” It’s sounds so damn happy you sing along just because.

On the happy note, cutesy pop is spread all over “All Things Bright And Beautiful.” “Honey and Bee” and future Facebook statuses “Dreams Don’t Turn to Dust” sound like future Glee endeavors. The stars of Glee may also want to get into the spacey tracks “Galaxies” and “Alligator Sky.” And what about that swag? Shawn Chrystopher drops his rhymes on the reptilian first single.

Words of car crashes, the real world and a Milky Way surrounded by sugary synth sound sums up; “All Things Bright And Beautiful.” Much like “Ocean Eyes,” and if “Dreams Don’t Turn to Dust” is a single, Owl City has a chance to be more than that “Firefly” guy. So if you liked that song or are into music that sounds like Deathcab for Cutie mated with 90’s dance music, go out and support. Pick up “All Things Bright And Beautiful;” when it hits shelves and iTunes on June 14th.
